Place a variety of items with different textures in a basket and encourage the infant to explore them. Include things such as a piece of soft felt, a bumpty squeeze toy or a smooth ball. Talk about what the infant is experiencing. “The felt is soft when you rub it on your face.” Create a texture book using a variety of safe materials such as textured and smooth fabrics, sandpaper, VELCRO® and other items that can be glued to construction paper or card stock.
