Provide the children with paper cut into squares. (HINT: If you cut 81/2" x 11" paper into 81/2" squares, then the left-over strip will be just the right size for lists.) Encourage the children to draw and write about a recent field trip or class visitor. Discuss the things they learned from the trip and suggest they include that in their picture. Take dictation or provide word cards so the children can copy them on to their drawings. “The dentist said to brush our teeth every day.” Glue the squares on poster board or chart paper to make a “thank you” quilt to present to the visitor. This can be done in small group.
