Read Friends by Aliki and create a chart with some of the actions in the story. Have the children place a smiley or frowny face on the chart depending on how each action in the story will make a friend feel. Ask them to tell why. For example, a child might say, “I put a smiley face because sharing will make my friend happy.”  This could be done in large group.
