Provide objects of different shapes, such as a circle, square, triangle and rectangle, for infants to hold and mouth. Shapes of different textures and sizes should be made available such as a plastic ring from a stacking toy, a smooth wooden block, or the metal triangle from a set of rhythm instruments. Talk about the objects as the infant handles them, naming the shape as well as the texture or color.
