Read Soft and Smooth, Rough and Bumpy by Dana Meachen Rau. Gather materials with different textures such as cotton balls, plastic spoons, velvet, feathers, coins and sandpaper. Label small, clear containers by textures (soft, scratchy, hard or rough) that match the items. After each child touches each item, they collectively decide under which category the item should belong.This can be done in small group.
