How Far Will They Roll

Give the children a poster board, a paper towel tube, a yardstick and small cars in the block center. Encourage the children to hold the tube at an angle and roll the cars through the tube onto the poster board to see how far they go. Place the yardstick next to the poster board so they can measure. Make marks directly on the poster board. Make comparisons such as, “the red one went to the number 14, the blue one went to the number seven. That means it rolled seven inches.” Now try using a wrapping paper tube and see what happens.
