Encourage the children to explore real items, such as flowers, pine cones, twigs and leaves, using tweezers and magnifying glasses. Provide balance scales to weigh items. Create a chart with two columns, one labeled “light” and the other labeled “heavy.” Have the children glue the items under the correct category. This activity could be done in small group.
