Say the poem, “I spy with my little eye, something that begins with the /p/ sound.” Encourage the children to guess what you may be looking at. When a child discovers what you've spied, say, “you guessed it, /p/ is the first sound in plate,” then he or she can take a turn spying an object. This could be done in large group.
