Lead the children on a tour of the playground searching for leaves. As you find a leaf, encourage the children to describe its shape. “Are the edges smooth or pointy? Is there one section, such as in a dogwood leaf, or three, like a maple leaf?” Introduce new vocabulary such as lobe or serrated. At the end of the walk, ask children to describe a leaf using one of the new words.
