Write a sentence from a big book on a sentence strip and then cut it apart into individual words. Pass out the words to the children. Display the sentence in the book and then call the children up one by one to hold up their word so they are standing in the same order as the sentence. Start with something simple and move to a more complex sentence. After some experience with this invite the children to put themselves in order. This could be done in large group.
