More Crayons, Please

Tape a piece of butcher paper to the table. Provide the children with one crayon or one marker each. After they have used the crayon for a few minutes ask, “Do you want a different color?” Bring out a bin of crayons and put more crayons on the table for them to choose from. Say, “Now we have more crayons.” As the children come to the table or leave, comment on the number of children at the table. “Two more children came,” or “Carl and Pam left. Now we have fewer people at the table.”
