Encourage the children in the science center to invent machines using found objects such as boxes, cardboard tubes, spools, bottle caps and pipe cleaners. Provide glue, construction paper, markers and tape. Before they start, have the children discuss what they want the machine to do. After they have created a machine, ask them to describe what it does and how it works. They might make “a robot to clean my room” or “a food machine to make snacks.”
