Under close supervision, take the children for a walk around the center to look for printed numerals in the environment. Ask them to touch or point to numerals they see. When they recognize a number (the room number or a number on a calendar), reinforce the recognition by responding, "Yes, these are numbers. This is the number one. This is the number two. And this is the number five." At home, children can do this activity using their mailbox or house number.
