Cover the table with butcher paper. Provide the children with tempera paint in a tray and several sizes and types of paint rollers. The rollers are examples of a wheel and axle, a simple machine. Encourage the children to roll the paint on the paper in different directions and designs. Talk about the rollers and how they work. Compare them to other wheels the children may know about.
