Use two pretend telephones to have a back-and- forth conversation with the children. Encourage one child to pick up the phone. Begin by saying, “Hello,” and give the child time to respond. Continue with simple questions such as, “What are you doing?” Follow the child's conversation. Pause to give the child a chance to answer.
