Read A Grand Old Tree by Mary Newell Depalma or A Tree Is a Plant by Clyde Robert Bulla. Talk about why trees are important. They are homes for birds and other animals. They give us food and shade and help clean the air. Ask the children where they see trees: in their yard, at a park, on the playground? Help them make trees for the block center to “plant” next to their buildings. Paint short cardboard tubes brown or cover them with brown paper. Stuff squares of green tissue paper in the tops for instant trees.
