Provide infants with safe, clean recycled materials to explore, such as empty cereal boxes, oatmeal tubs and beverage containers with secured lids. Use language related to what the child is doing with the specific object. Provide a wide variety of materials for exploration throughout the day and verbalize the attributes of the items being explored. Say, “Alyssa, you're banging the pots together,” or “Lily, you're holding the large box.”
