During large group, read A Letter to Amy by Ezra Jack Keats. Talk to the children about what a letter is; many of them may not be familiar with the concept. Show them a letter you have received. Mention that in the story Peter wants to write a letter because the invitation is special. Compose a class letter on chart paper to invite someone to an event. Talk about the greeting, “Dear ______” and the closing. You could also write a letter from Amy to Peter letting him know she will come to his party.
