Gather items from your classroom that can be sorted into two groups, large and small, such as LEGO®s and LEGO® DUPLO®s, table blocks, unit blocks, or large and small animal figures. Give the children several of each size block and ask them to sort by size. Say, “Can you put all the ones that are the same size together? Good! You made a set of large blocks and a set of small blocks.” Then give the children additional blocks and ask them to put them with others that are the same. If they are successful with this activity, give them a different item, such as an animal, and ask them to decide which group it belongs in.
