Teach this song, to the tune of “London Bridge,” to reinforce two important concepts about print.


When you read you start at the top,

Start at the top, Start at the top,

When you read start at the top

Then go to the bottom.

When you read, go left to right,

Left to right, Left to right.

When you read, go left to right

Then go to the next line.


Introduce the words author, illustrator and title to the children. Before reading texts, encourage the children to identify each.
