Show the children how to make various letters of the alphabet with their bodies, either individually or with a few other children. For example, hold both arms straight out to the side to make the letter “T” or curve both arms around to make a “C.” Encourage four children to work together to make a letter “E” by lying on the floor. Alphabet Fun: Making Letters with Your Body by Isabel Thomas gives you many examples of both upper and lowercase letters. Leaving the book out for the children to look at during center time encourages individual exploration.
