After reading Jan Brett's The Mitten, provide the children with an oven mitt and an assortment of plastic animals. Encourage the children to act out the story, putting the animals inside the mitt as they repeat the words: “He crawled in anyway” and dump them out when the bear sneezes. This activity could be done in small group.
