After reading a new book, such as Pete the Cat: Rock On Mom and Dad by James Dean, ask for a “thumbs up” or “thumbs down.” Explain making a fist with your thumb pointing up means you agree or that your answer is “yes.” Thumbs down means “no.” Stop on a page and ask a yes/no question such as, “Do you think Pete will surprise his Mom and Dad? Thumbs up or thumbs down.” This could be done in large group.
