Provide each child with modeling clay or play dough for molding a small volcano. Make an indentation in the top of each child's model, and add a tablespoon of baking soda in the indentation. Give each child a half-cup of vinegar with a drop of red food coloring. Allow the children to slowly pour the vinegar over the baking soda. Ask them, “What is going to happen when we pour the vinegar onto the baking soda?” and “Why do volcanos erupt?”  This activity could be done in small group.
