Line up a variety of shoes on the floor (lace-up shoe, buckle shoe, slip-on shoe, sandal, VELCRO® shoe.) You can also use pictures of these types of shoes. Give all the children a small photo of themselves. Have the children place their photos in a line next to the shoe that is the same style as theirs. Point out which line is longer and which is shorter. Use comparative language. Say, "More children are wearing laces than VELCRO® today."
