Read “The Three Little Pigs” a few times until the children are familiar with the story. Introduce a new concept of houses by opening a suitcase full of straw, sticks and bricks. Have the children explore the materials by looking, touching, feeling and smelling. Compare and contrast the materials used by the pigs. Discuss characteristics of the materials and how well each will withstand huffing and puffing. Explore other ways of building the strongest house with the most protection. Extend the play and discussion to the block area while building houses with the materials.
