During outdoor time, place several hula-hoops on the grass. Play some music and encourage the children to move around and between the hoops. When the music stops, everyone must get inside a hoop. The children work together to make sure everyone is included. Play again several times, but each time you play, remove a hoop. The fewer the number of hoops, the more difficult it becomes to get everyone inside a hoop. The children have to think creatively to figure out how to solve this problem. End with only one hoop and everyone inside. An alternate method is to use a long rope to create a circle and then gradually decrease the size of the circle.
