Do You Shed Skin?

INDICATOR(S)CD-SC3.4a

AGE GROUP(S)48-60 months
Examine a snakeskin. Pet shops will often save them. Have the children look at the patterns on its surface. Demonstrate how shedding happens by having the children spread white glue on the palms of their hands to dry. Help them peel off the glue “skin” and observe the pattern of lines from their palms. Explain that a shed snakeskin retains the pattern of scales in the same way. Roll knee-length panty hose on children's arms and encourage them to “shed their skin” by rubbing against things, similar to a snake. This can be done in small group.
