Provide a large variety of blocks, such as cardboard, juice boxes, and foam, and change them regularly throughout the year. As new blocks are introduced, talk with the children about how they are the same and different from other blocks in the block center and how they might be used in different ways. For example, cardboard blocks are lighter than wooden blocks, so you could build taller structures. But they don't hook together like LEGO®s, so you have to balance them.
