Exploring Origami

Provide paper squares and scissors. Demonstrate how to fold the square into simple origami figures. While in the math center encourage the children to experiment with folding the paper in various ways. Show them how to cut out shapes from the folded paper to resemble Japanese cut-paper art. The materials will help children focus on shapes and build spatial awareness.
